General aim

To study the formation and implications of gender differences in the division of carework and housework, and labour market outcomes and rewards.

Strengths

* Good information about workplace factors, labour market intermittency (e.g., due to paternal leave), tax deductions for household services etc.
* Studies long-term consequences of family responsibilities, career intervals and shorter leaves of absence to care for children.
* Investigates consequences of Swedish family policies for different cohorts and over time

* The division of temporary parental leave and its consequences for women’s and men’s wage trends
* How is the family situation related to the gender wage gap in low and high skilled occupations? Is there a clear motherhood wage penalty within occupations?

To study how social inequalities in education, class, and income shape and are shaped by families, their structure, and dynamics.

Strengths

* Large life course data enabling links between family members (within and across generations)
