General aim

To study intragenerational mobility/ career mobility

* Description of occupational attainment over the life course and across cohorts
* How do careers develop from the first job to later career stages?
* Do educational and class background differences in occupational attainment vary across the career?
* How do career patterns differ between women and men?

Strengths

* Compared with intergenerational mobility – relatively much left to explore
* Make a connection in between inter- and intragenerational mobility
* Inclusion of measures of personal traits and cognitive ability

On-going work

* Replication of findings on occupational biographies on register data
- How successful is the cohort of women born from the mid 1960s?
* How reliable is occupational data in our registries?
